IAED Member Levels Explained

IAED Examiner is an IAED Member who is at instructor/assessor level and lectures. IAED Examiners
oversee and assess IAED Certification tests, instruct at IAED Workshops and are eligible to lecture at IAED approved educational events and our Annual Convention.


IAED Examiners:

  • Must be IAED Certified

  • Have completed an equine head and neck anatomy course

  • Have a minimum 750 hours verified equine dental education

  • Have a minimum 5 years verified professional experience

  • Have verified continuing education credits for the past 5 years

  • Have passed the IAED Examiner written test at 90% or higher

  • Have passed the IAED Examiner practical test at 90% or higher

  • Must attend at least one continuing education venue (college/school/convention) and complete a

  • Minimum of 24 hours of continuing education every 2 years.

IAED Certified is an IAED Member who has sat and passed our rigorous written and practical exams to

achieve Certification. To qualify for the examination process, the Member must:

  • Have graduated from a formal equine dental education program with at least 240 hours of equine dental education.

  • Veterinarians may attempt the exam with 80 hours of equine dental education in addition to their general education in veterinary school.

  • Be an IAED member in good standing

  • Have a recommendation from an IAED Certified member who will testify to the candidate's ability.

 

IAED Certified Members:

  • Have passed the IAED Certified written test at 80% or higher

  • Have passed the IAED Certified practical test at 80% or higher.

  • Must attend at least one continuing education venue (college/school/convention) and complete a minimum of 24 hours of continuing education every 2 years to maintain the status of IAED Certified.

IAED Regular Member is part of our professional community. They:

  • Share our philosophies and support our pursuit in achieving the best outcome for the horse,

  • Are committed to upholding the ethical values of the IAED.

  • Currently work in the field of equine dentistry.

  • Currently, they have not had their equine dental work assessed and certified.

IAED Student Member is currently enrolled at an equine dental educational facility and studying equine dentistry. They have not yet completed their studies, completed sufficient hours of study or been examined in order to qualify for Regular Membership.

 

IAED Supporting Member:

  • Share our philosophies and support our pursuit in achieving the best outcome for the horse.

  • Supporting members are often educational venues, suppliers of equipment, horse owners and family members of people working in the industry.
